Situated near the heart of Boulder, Colorado, 30 Pearl Q1 includes 3 market rate Net Zero Energy mixed use buildings. The project aimed to create an "efficiency first" model for sustainability including enhanced insulation, triple pane windows, highly efficient HVAC systems, LED lighting, and several waste heat recovery systems for both air and water. The state-of-the-art Piranha system installed in the garage recaptures latent heat from plumbing waste. This system significantly reduces the energy requirements of fresh water heating, which is one of the biggest energy loads on any residential typology, and is the third such system installed in the United States. Solar panels have been strategically and seamlessly designed into the façade of the building as awnings, canopies, and are even a critical component of the mechanical screens.
